Computer science research is conducted within a dedicated research environment called the Research Environment of Computer Science (RECS): https://www.hkr.se/en/research/research-environment-of-computer-science/. RECS is an expanding research environment with the overall aim of advancing knowledge primarily in the areas of machine learning, the Internet of Things, and data security. The environment strives to establish collaborations across disciplinary and organizational boundaries, both nationally and internationally.

The Department of Computer Science currently has 28 staff members. We teach mainly within the Master Programme in Computer Science, the Software Development Programme (Bachelor level), Högskoleingenjörsprogram i datateknik (Bachelor Programme in Computer Science and Engineering), IT-driftteknikerprogrammet, as well as around twenty standalone courses in computer science and computer engineering. Responsibilities

As a Professor of Computer Science, you will play a key role in developing and leading our research activities, as well as in strengthening and expanding our research group within the field. You will be a driving force in our continuous development and quality work and actively contribute to the faculty’s long-term research strategy.

The position includes overall responsibility for research in computer science, which involves initiating, leading, and promoting research projects, developing both internal and external collaborations, nationally and internationally, and working with research funding and grant applications. The role can also include leadership responsibilities within the faculty and the university. You will also be involved in teaching, supervision, and examination within our programmes and standalone courses, as well as contributing to course development and planning.

Collaboration with society is a central aspect of the position, particularly in relation to research activities. The position also includes administrative duties within the subject area and the faculty.

Qualifications

A candidate who is qualified to be Professor has displayed academic and pedagogical proficiency or has some other professional proficiency that is relevant to the position’s subject matter and the tasks that the position involves (HF chapter 4, section 4). Your scientific merits should be within computer science or in other disciplines with relevance to computer science. To be eligible for employment as a professor, you must have demonstrated both scientific and pedagogical excellence. Scientific excellence shall be shown through independent research achievements that significantly exceed docent level. We are looking for someone with experience in teaching and supervision at the advanced level. You need to be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

Kristianstad University attaches great importance to the pedagogical skills of its employees. On employment, the applicant is expected to have completed a course in teaching and learning in higher education of at least 15 credits, or to demonstrate equivalent knowledge. For employees who do not have such education, the competence development plan shall include the completion of such education during the first two years of employment.

For this position, it is particularly meritorious if you have:

• the ability to lead and develop research,
• experience in obtaining external research funding in national and international competitions, and
• experience in building networks and collaborating with external partners in relevant areas.

In the appointment of a professor, scientific and pedagogical excellence will be given particular weight. In the scientific assessment, emphasis will be placed on ongoing and planned research, independent research achievements, and the ability to obtain external research funding. Consideration will also be given to demonstrated ability to lead and develop activities and staff within research groups, as well as the ability to collaborate with the wider community, particularly in matters related to research and development.

Great importance will be placed on personal suitability, as well as on the ability to collaborate and to contribute to a positive work environment. We will select the candidate who is judged to best contribute to the research group’s activities and strategic development.

Other Information

The position is a full-time, permanent appointment starting by agreement. The workplace is located in Kristianstad on our beautiful campus, which offers good bus connections and parking facilities. Some teaching may be scheduled during evenings or weekends, and may also take place at locations other than Kristianstad.
